Fuel Design & Fabrication Project Engineer

Work with interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish and advance the detailed design for fuel and core components (e.g., control rods, cladding, ducts, fuel slugs, inlet nozzles, etc.) consistent with functional, design, and quality requirements. Lead design reviews as design is established and refined.
Interface with the Design and Drafting team to create and manage the detailed drawing packages of component and assembly designs, as well as bill of materials.
Establish and maintain component level and assembly level product specifications.
Propose and initiate product qualification testing programs, as needed, and execute, evaluate and report qualification results.
Interface with and provide technical direction/oversight for TerraPowers core component manufacturing suppliers, as necessary
Author technical documents such as engineering reports, function and requirements documents, and product specifications, and non-technical documents such as statements of work, and project plans.

Key Qualifications and Skills

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university
Demonstrated experience in design of reactor core components, including creation or maintenance of detailed drawing packages and supporting design analysis. 5+ years of relevant experience is highly desired. Control rod design experience is considered a plus.
Demonstrated experience in writing specifications for procurement, testing, and fabrication.
Experience interfacing with manufacturing vendors or work experience in a manufacturing environment is desired.
Strong knowledge of various inspection and test techniques (e.g., dimensional, chemical, mechanical property, ultrasonic, etc.)
Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is highly desirable.
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design teams effort
Possess ability to work on tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
Experience in performing design activities to applicable requirements such as NQA-1, ASME B&PV, AWS, 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, or equivalent.
Strong computer software skills are desired and proficiency with Microsoft Office products is required. Familiarity with SolidWorks or other commercial solid modeling software is desired.
